These are some of the local peppers you can get in Nigeria ,below are the market names for each of them.

  1. Small green peppers – Called unripe rodo in markets; used  by most people to make ofada (ayamase) sauce.
  2. Small yellow peppers – Called Fresh habernero/ cameroon pepper in markets; used by most to make the base for local soups or mixed with other peppers to make sauces.
  3.  Long yellow pepper – yellow shombo, is usually difficult to find and is combined with other peppers to make sauces.
  4. Long red peppers – called shombo in markets; mixed with other peppers to make Nigerian stew or create sauces for jollof rice. Usually adds redness to Nigerian stew and jollof rice.
  5. Big green peppers – called green pepper in markets, used in fried rice recipes,ofada sauce recipes and in combination with sweet bell peppers to create a sauces.
