My idea of being the perfect host used to be sweating on arrival of guests(so they know you prepared so hard to receive them),serving the food on a tray, not forgetting to include “washing hand water” and making sure to provide glass cups for drinks.
The story is different these days ;being a host has become a show of coordination and excellence.Nobody wants to know or is interested in how its put together;they just want it done well enough for them to enjoy.
As you open your home to people this christmas, here are a few tips to being the perfect host :
-Prepare your home; make it tidy and welcoming; set the table area just in time for the arrival of the guest, jazz up the environment with cool home accessories.
-Pick a theme to guide you through preparing; Be sure to pick a cuisine you and your guests will be comfortable with.
-Pick meals your guests will enjoy and be comfortable eating. This might not be time to experiment with recipes(except you are a chef). Choose meals that allow you prepare in advance, making sure food is ready before guests arrive.
-Time yourself so everything is ready when its supposed to be.
-If along the line it gets too stressful, improvise ;-), you can switch up the menu or call for help.
-Choose drinks that complement the occasion and make sure drinks are chilled.
-Set the table – table cloth, wedding china, cutleries, wine glasses should be washed ,polished and shiny. set the table before guests arrive but do not overload the table with stuff.
-Little touches (like finger foods) can heighten the experience for your guest(s);don’t forget to place salt/pepper shakers on the table so you are not running round.
-Don’t overdo anything
-Organize something your guest(s) can enjoy after their meals (light refreshments, music, games).
-Clean up as you go or set aside for the next day.
Being the perfect host this season is as easy as the following steps :-), remember to send in your testimonies…..
